Accessibility
to avoid excluding the disabled from E-Government
REAL LIFE EXAMPLE: Most government entities have their buildings made to suit international standards to allow equal access for the disabled so that people bound to the wheelchair or are otherwise handicapped can also enter the buildings.
A clear trend is evolving, drawing more and more business processes of government administration towards the internet, yet no real efforts are made in terms of accessibility.
Accessibility is a meaningful aspect when designing web presences. But nowhere is it as meaningful as in government operations simply because every member of society has to interact with government entities.
Implementing accessible solutions is thus not only meaningful, but mandatory to consider when (re)designing solutions in context to government portals.
Lars Hilse is familiar with a variety of international standards to be met in terms of accessibility, allowing your citizens to perform their tasks regardless of any physical handicaps they may have.
